	The Office of the Vice Provost for Research has overall responsibility for facilitating the research enterprise at Duke University. The Vice Provost for Research, James N. Siedow, works closely with the Provost, his staff and the Deans on research policy. He supervises the Office of Research Support and manages the ORS budget and Instrumentation Fund. In addition, he participates in the management and allocation of research connected funds allocated by the Provost. He explores potential new areas for research and oversees campus-wide planning efforts with respect to research and research facilities. This includes working with the Technology Transfer Office to encourage and support the development and marketing of Duke’s intellectual property. Other responsibilities for the Vice Provost for Research include developing appropriate linkages between University and industry and facilitating transfer of technologies from University laboratories to the public sector. overseeing the development and/or coordination of University-wide research policies and guidelines with regard to research and technology transfer. fostering collaboration among units in the initiation, formulation, and implementation of interdivisional research projects. monitoring and advising on federal policies, regulations, and actions that affect academic research in general and Duke’s research efforts in particular.
